Warming Up Before Running

You should warm up each time before running. Warming up helps prevent injury, and it mentally prepares you for the hard work out ahead.

There are many benefits to warming up before you run. First off, your heart is ready for the workout and your muscles are loose. You should warm up slowly, allowing your muscles to growth the blood in your tissues, therefore getting more oxygen and production them more resistant to injury.

To warm up, start running easily and slowly until your heart reaches about 120 beats per minute. Your breathing should also growth allowing you to get oxygen to all of your muscles and to growth their temperature. If you have broken into a diminutive sweat, that is a sign of a good warm up.

Also be sure to stretch your muscles by tantalizing your arms around, bending over, and flexing the large muscles in your body. Achieve holding exercises that stretch your major muscle groups for 20 to 30 seconds each. Walk briskly if you feel to stiff to jog. Loosen your shoulders, neck, arms, hamstrings, quads, and calves. Start your running slow and easy and then go into the hard workout phase.

Never skip a warm up session when you are running, even on an easy day. On an easy day, you may warm up for five to ten minutes rather than ten to fifteen minutes. But don't assume that just because you are going to do a light workout that your muscles are automatically ready for the exercise.
